Finished with the Sleeves!

Last night I finished the second sleeve, and today I spent a good amount of time preparing the charts and instructions for the body- not that I'm designing the sweater or anything, but the knit-along pattern has to be condensed before knitting. :) So far, so good though- maybe I will get this sweater done before it's too warm to wear it!

I've also been working on the chart for the baby blanket I'll be knitting soon- I'm modifying a chart from the "Vogue Knitting: Baby Blankets" book- it's a great chart, but it is SO small in the book- even blown up to max on the copier it was still very hard to read. And since the chart in the book is printed in red, it didn't copy very well- so I'm laboriously re-charting it on Digistitch. Of course, I'm also going to knit it in a variety of colors rather than the 2 in the book, so it's probably just as well- but it is a VERY time-consuming endeavour. But I think the final blanket will be stunning- so hopefully it'll be worth all the preliminary work!

I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving!

More Baby Blankets, Another Scarf, and Sweater Progress!

I learned this weekend that a good family friend is expecting her second, due in May, so of course the very next morning I ran out to the store and bought the yarn I will use for her blanket. :) I'm not sure when I'll start it, though- probably after I finish the holiday gifts waiting in line for their turns. ;)

I'm also happy to report that I am making good progress on my second sleeve for my sweater- I finished increasing this weekend, and I should be done in the next few days, depending on how much knitting I sneak in. I'm also knitting my grandma's scarf at the same time, but since the scarf is solid white stockinette stitch (except for the fair isle bands on each end), the knitting is going quickly and mindlessly. ;) Hopefully, with the holidays coming up, I can get some good knitting in! :)

More Projects

I am making steady progress on the second sleeve, but I still don't think the sweater will be finished in time for this season... but maybe I'll surprise myself! :) I also have decided what to make my grandma for her 90th (!!!) birthday- a scarf to match the hat I made for her for christmas- we'll be celebrating her birthday on Dec 28, so she'll only have a few days before she gets the full set! :) Since the scarf will be fair isle like the hat, there will definitely be a "wrong side," so, stealing the inspiration from some darling scarves I saw at Old Navy (of all places!), I'm going to line the wrong side of the scarf in coordinating polar-fleece fabric... nice and soft and warm, and the lining will hide all the yarn carries etc... Hopefully I can get the scarf knit in a few days... I want to keep working on my sweater!

Pictures!

I finished 1 sleeve, and got quite a bit done on the second- and I have the pictures to prove it!! :)

Sleeve One (finished):

Sleeve Two (in progress):

Second Sleeve

Both Sleeves:

Sleeves

I am definitely making better progress than I had anticipated, so there is a small chance I will actually finish this sweater in time to wear it this year! I'm not holding my breath, though, as the body will be a much bigger project to tackle. :)

Sleeve Progress

Thanks to 2 full days of training (and another coming up on friday!), I am making great progress on my sleeve... I finished the increases, going from 56 to 84 sts, and the sleeve reaches over my elbow! Tonight I need to review the instructions to figure out how long to make the sleeve. I would be THRILLED if I could finish this sweater in time to wear it this winter, but somehow I don't think that will happen.... maybe I'll have to go somewhere cold on vacation so I can wear it. ;) I think I'm going to have to interrupt my sweater progress to do a few more gifts- I am planning to make my grandma a matching scarf for her 90th birthday(!!!) in january- since it will be fair isle like the hat, there will be a "wrong" side, so I think I will line it with some fleece to hide the back side. I'm not sure I have enough of each color yarn to do exactly the same design, so I think I might do something similar, but not identical- make it more interesting too! ;) The scarf should knit up really quickly, so hopefully I'll still be able to get a lot of work done on my sweater. :)

Website Update

I added a section to my website that will chronicle my progress on my aran sweater- since the pattern was originally developed as a knit-along, it isn't organized as a pattern per se. So what I'm doing is writing what I do as I do it- so at the end, I'll have "my version" of the pattern. Of course, I link to the original posts that I'm working off of- I definitely did NOT design this sweater, and don't want to take any credit away from those who did! My notes can be found at: http://albuspuer.com/maevezana/CurrentProject/Aran/ARAN.htm. Next, I'll need to add pics of the work in progress- hopefully I'll have time this weekend.

I just found out that the yarn I'm using for my aran (lion brand wool-ease in oxford grey) has been discontinued- I'm almost positive I bought enough to finish my sweater, but now I'm thinking I should buy a few extra skeins (even in a different dye lot) just to make sure. After all, I can always return/exchange! :)

Finished.... and DPNs!

I finished the Harry Potter scarf- gotta love training classes! :) And even though I should really do a few more hats and scarves for holiday gifts, I just couldn't stand it- I started the ARAN sweater. It was originally a knit-along on one of my yahoo knitting groups: http://www.cs.oswego.edu/~ebozak/knit/ck-patterns/aran/index.html . I've gotten about 5 inches on the sleeve- my first time with DPNs- and I'm loving them! I thought for sure juggling all those needles would make me crazy, but I really love it. Perhaps not as easy as circulars, but I somehow feel more peaceful knitting on them- although once the sleeves get big enough, I probably will switch to circs.

#$&(&$#& Ends

I finished knitting the Harry Potter scarf during the training session yesterday, and today I'm working on weaving in all of the ends. I HATE weaving in ends... oh well! ;) Hopefully I'll get the ends woven and the fringe added before I meet the scarf-recipient for dinner tonight- I would love to be able to give it to her! I'm hoping she'll allow me to take and post a picture of her modeling her scarf... :)
