Still Life - Mariah and Binder Clips This one's for you, Shanti! 0 comments || # Sunday, February 20, 2005 New ProjectShedir is off the needles, and just needs a few ends woven in and such to make it a true FO. But, not being one to waste any time, I've started my next project - a VERY VERY VERY early Christmas present for my mom - a pair of Latvian mittens! (I know. It's SO far away, but it's too late for mittens this year, so I'll have to wait!)First, I picked out the yarn - it's the merino from Knitpicks - I'm knitting it very tightly on size 1 needles to make extra warm, extra cozy mittens. I'm getting about 8.5 sts per inch. I'm pretty sure I've decided on the pattern, and I think I've got my colors picked out:  And here's my swatch with some color combinations I'm working on -  Of course, now that I've got all of my mitten-planning done, I think I'll take a break and work on Mariah for a few weeks - until I have to get on an airplane with teeny tiny little needles. With all of this knitting, however, Cricket got worn out...  But not until she had already had her salad for dinner!  And now, it's clean sheet night - my favorite night of the week! :) 0 comments || # Saturday, February 19, 2005 New Bag! I LOVE this bag. Plenty of pockets for those important things, and then plenty of room for knitting! I just wish I had bought this at the beginning of the day, rather than at the end. :) I spent pretty much the entire day at the shop, and it was well worth the extra-long metro ride there (they were doing track repair, and there were annoying delays!) Lots of the irregulars were there, and it was so relaxing to do nothing all day besides knitting and talking. (and giggling about binder clips.) I also had to buy yarn - one of my law school buddies asked me very sweetly if I would knit her a cover for her pink mini-i-pod - she'd buy the yarn! Of course I said yes, and told her I'd buy "a selection" of the pink yarns at the shop, and she could choose on Wednesday before late night. I think she has a few great choices:  And of course, an entire day of knitting meant lots of progress on Shedir - I may finish this weekend!  Cricket reminds you to take a break from your knitting and have a nice, relaxing bath. (I suggest the bathtub, rather than a kitty-tongue, however!) 
0 comments || # Thursday, February 17, 2005 Water PressureLast night, after late night, I stopped at Target and spent $15 on a new showerhead - the "power spray 4 massage setting" one. WOW. I may never get out of the shower. We've always had great water pressure... but somehow, the old showerhead strangled the water flow to such an extent that it was like a weak drizzle. It reminded me of those stupid water-saving showers in California. The only bad thing about the new showerhead? It took me 6 months to get off my butt and get one.The showerhead excitement made up for my complete lack of progress at late night. Almost 2 hours of knitting =  I cast on for Shedir. That's it. I actually cast on at least 3 times, but kept screwing up. First time? Tail wasn't long enough. Second time? Cast on 128 does NOT equal cast on 98. Third time? You join and knit the first round with the YARN, not the tail. ARGH. But now all is going well, and hopefully I'll finish this by next week. I also finished sewing up my sock-buddy socks - so these are all ready to mail in March. :)  Cricket was much more interested in the possibility of breakfast than in posing for a blog pic, but I tried! :) 
0 comments || # Wednesday, February 16, 2005 Taking StockI've finished both my sock-buddy socks, and the ipod-cozy (which started its journey to LA this morning!). Next up:
I also need to weigh the shetland vest I made for my dad a few years ago and start to design the next vest. I'm pretty much set on the colors - all shades of natural brown shetland sheepy-goodness - but I don't have the design yet. But first step is to weigh the finished vest in order to guestimate the amount of yarn I should order - last time I wildly overestimated the amounts I needed. Tonight is late night, so hopefully I'll get a good start on Shedir. I'm also going to be ordering more yarn - my reward for doing inventory last month is that I get to order a project's worth of yarn at wholesale. Tonight, no more stalling - I'm picking my yarn and ordering it. The project will come later! :) 0 comments || # Sunday, February 13, 2005 Almost Done!!I'm just about done with my sockapalooza socks - I've actually really enjoyed doing these cables. :) And as an added twist, I made the cables mirror-image so the socks will be symmetrical instead of identical.  Plus, I got a package in the mail - my new stitch markers from amyville! They are SO awesome. I also got some cupcakes and donuts - mmmmmm... donuts!!  And Cricket would like to take this opportunity to warn everyone about the dangers of PWS - playing while sleepy. Luckily, she escaped injury this time - but next time, she may not be so lucky. So remember, kitties - put your toys away BEFORE you take your nap! 
0 comments || # Sunday, February 06, 2005 Back from the DeadMy paper is FINALLY finished and turned in. Of course, I should be doing all sorts of really important work this weekend, but instead, I'm taking a vacation. I'm sure I'll regret it later, but right now, it's worth it.First, on Friday I had a fantastic time at Barrister's Ball, a.k.a. law school prom. It was so much fun! Plus, it was a chance to wear my bridesmaid's dress again. My friend swore that I would be able to wear the dress again, and by golly, she was right! ;) 
I've also finally finished both sleeves of Mariah! 
Of course, I have no idea when I'll manage to get around to knitting the body since I'm hard at work on the socks for my sock pal - who sadly doesn't have a blog, so I can't find out anything about her other than the fact that her feet are definitely on the big side - 9" circumference and 10" long! So, with the deadline fast approaching, I've been working pretty much non-stop on these during my limited knitting time. Hopefully they'll get done in time! 
I also have to make my friend an ipod cozy - apparently, ipods get very chilly in So Cal. :)

EXCERPTS FROM A CAT'S DAILY DIARY: Day 183 of My Captivity: My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get in ruining the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another house plant. Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking - almost succeeded; Must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair. Must try this on their bed. Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was. Hmmm , not working according to plan. There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary confinement throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. More importantly, I overheard that my confinement was due to my power of " allergies". Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage. I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird, on the other hand, has got to be an informant; he speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move.
